i thought the grandmother was dead.

fridyah i went to see persepolis with my french class. everybody (imdb, critics) said it was amazing, but you'd be surprised how much is lost when you don't understand the language. like, we thought the grandma died when the house was bombed. turns out, she wasn't dead and all those scenes where we thought the girl went to "heaven" to visit her grandma was actually her going to her grandma's house and actually having a cup of tea! go figure. so yesterday i downloaded the subtitles and read through them. no, just the subtitles. in text form. and since they were just subtitles, it didnt tell me what was going on at the time or who was talking. but i still understood them much better than the movie. and it was their neighbor's house, evidently.

i mean to say fridyah. in the sabrina episode with the elections for god knows what, hilda and zelda were for opposing candidates, and one bill that was up for approval was officially changing "Friday" to "Fridya". and, of course, i dont remember anything from the episode except for salem yelling happy fridyah! at the end.

so after a beautiful and gorgeous week, friday decided to be FREEZING. i literally saw ice when i was walking to the metro. there is something wrong with that. on satyday i went to versailles! i would show you a beautiful chateau picture but it decided to be under renovation. of course. so here is the gate:you can probably see the scaffolding behind, but let's pretend it's not there.
so, what would you do if you had, literally, more money than you know what to do with? would you build fireplaces for trees instead of logs?
would you build a sick chapel where only royalty was allowed on the second floor?make every room a different color?
would you build a hall of mirrors?
last time i went to versailles (2004) the hall of mirrors was under renovation. and look at it now. so bright! and sparkly! even though the actual mirrors themselves weren't so great. somebody needs to windex those up.

and the gardens were definitely much nicer last time. because, well, it's the winter and last time we came in the summer. here is a frozen fountain:
yes, kiddos, that fountain is frozen over. super fun to throw rocks in. skip some rocks over some ice next time you can. the chink chink chink is a very fun sound.
here, look at some affluence:this is me cheating death:
and again, with the swan. swans are surly, be careful around themi'm imitating the swan. kind of. never mind.

today i was going to go to see the christian lacroix exhibit at the fashion museum, but after not being able to find the musem for an hour (it's not actually in the palais royal...in fact, just because it says the address is the palais royal metro stop just means it's in the surrounding area...) and then seeing how long the line was (too many tourists!) alicia and i decided to go to les halles instead.
here is an awful tourist picture:of me at the louvre.

these ball things were at the palais royal, super cool looking:
les halles forum (the mall) was actually closed, because it was sunday, but there were still a ton of people around. at the pompidou center there were a bunch of performing artists, a couple statue guys, one weird masked dancer guy, a guy playing with a crystal ball, and....
A MAGICIAN!

yes. good day. and then i had KFC for dinner and fried chicken was SO SATISFYING.

when I saw Persepolis with the english subtitles, I thought the grandmother had died at first too. so it's confusing.q
